1. Actions are by Intentions
Narrated by: Amir al-Mu'minin Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه)
عَنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَبِي حَفْصٍ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: "إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ، وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوْ امْرَأَةٍ يَنْكِحُهَا فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ."
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Actions are judged only by intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah and His Messenger, his emigration is for Allah and His Messenger; and whoever emigrated for worldly benefit or for a woman to marry, his emigration is for what he emigrated for." (Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim)
Core Spiritual Lesson:
Purity of intention (Ikhlāṣ) is the soul of every deed. Without sincere intention for Allah alone, even the greatest outward deeds carry no spiritual weight.
